Our Program
ALA will support 100 tribal students in Kerala, enrolled in graduate level programs by providing annual scholarships.
Our program is an educational empowerment program that provides financial aid and mentoring support to eligible, academically brilliant and underprivileged students in graduate level courses from tribal communities in Kerala.
ALA Scholarships aspires to
- Promote the tribal children to the front row of society through education.
- Enable the tribal children to go for higher education.
Drop-out rates are high across tribal communities and through the different stages of the educational system from primary school to college.
Various areas of need during their education are stable accommodation, training & mentoring, coaching students to level with peers from mainstream communities, providing supplementary reading materials, library, internet , laptops etc

What is the selection criteria for ALA scholarships ?
Students are eligible for this scholarship based on
- Academic Merit
- Economic Need
- Recommended by the tribal development officers in Kerala
- Preference to students belonging to particularly vulnerable tribes (PVTG)
Who will be the recipients for this program ?
ALA scholarship students are studying to be doctors, engineers, civil servants, lawyers, teachers, and leaders from underserved communities and are a beacon of hope for the future.
How does my donation reach the students ?
100% of the money you donate goes directly to the students.
How do you ensure the success of the program ?
Periodic progress evaluations are conducted by requesting reviews from institutional heads which is confirmed by the supporting tribal development officers of our program.
Will a student stop receiving a scholarship any time during the academic year?
A student will stop receiving the scholarship only if they drop out of the course.

What payment modes are available?
250$ one time commitment: Your contribution will be utilized to fund scholarships for 1 student for an academic year.
You can also make a recurring donation.
As a donor can I help the students in any other way?
Yes, ALA is in the process of planning structured mentoring sessions to help with career planning and development. You will have the option to be a part of this when you do a one time commitment of $250 to support a student for an academic year.
What options do I have for currency of Payment?
Paypal accepts all currency modes.
How does my donation reach the students?
100% of the money you donate goes directly to the students. ALA directs the funds via a FCRA approved agency in Kerala and facilitates a direct deposit to the students account as a monthly recurring deposit. We will get the monthly statements for tracking and evaluation.
Every month , we will wire transfer 1500 Rs per student to a FCRA approved agency and then the funds will be transferred to the recipients.
ALA is working with Care & Share to collect donations from the USA. The monthly scholarship amount ( approx 100 students * 1500 scholarship = 150, 000 INR ) will be deposited to FCRA Agency’s account and the same will then be directly deposited to the student’s personal accounts by 15th of every month. Once the deposit has been made ALA will receive a confirmation. Please contact ALA if you want a copy of the same.
Will the donations made be tax exempt?
Yes, the donations will be tax exempt.
Is there corporate matching?
Yes, you would be able to lookup the name Care & Share and do your donations via your corporate website.
Will a student stop receiving a scholarship any time during the academic year?
Yes, ALA will send regular updates about the progress of the students. We will also hold regular check in meetings for donors.
As a donor, do I have access to the student details?
We want to protect the privacy of the students and will be able to provide only the progress report without personally identifiable information.
As a donor, can I connect with the student in person?
Once we launch the mentoring program, you may be able to connect with the students via structured mentoring sessions. Details to follow.
